Rock Opera KRZYŻACY widowisko muzyczno-baletowe
KRZYŻACY -“Teutonic Knights”
Based on Henryk Sienkiewicz’s classic novel of the same name, “Krzyżacy” is the first Polish rock opera in years, premiering December 30, 2010 at the Congress Hall of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw
“Krzyżacy”/”Teutonic Knights” was created on the occasion of the 600 anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Grunwald. The concept of the show is wrapped in a dark, black and white aesthetic, while the action takes places at the cusp of the Fifteenth Century. The politico-historical context is based on the Polish-Teutonic Knights conflict and the great war of 1410 against the Teutonic Knights, as well as the tragic story of Juranda ze Spychowa. Modern costumes, modern choreography and stylish set design are combined with a live rock band to accompany and illustrate the epic tale. The aim of the spectacle is to revive the tradition of legendary rock operas such as “Jesus Christ Superstar” or “We will rock you”, reintroducing the genre in Poland.
Performers include Paweł Kukiz from the band Piersi (in the role of Konrad von Jungingen), Maciej Balcar from the band Dżem (playing Jurand ze Spychowa), Artur Gadowski from the band IRA (as krół Jagiełło) and Maciej Silski (as Zbyszko z Bogdańca). The music was composed by Hadrian Filip Tabęcki while the lyrics were penned by Jacek Korczakowski. The choreography was made by Agnieszka Glinska with the participation of the Art Color Ballet, costumes by Tomasz Partyka. The show was written and directed by Marcin Kolaczkowski.
